Scenario: I have been commissioned by ukie to write a series of resource packs to be published on their website within the guides section.
Making a comparison and conclusion will be difficult due to the lack of responses for my primary research. Despite this lack of response, my secondary research does seem to have come from trust-able sources, so I shall take that as the rough truth.
The game seems to be mostly played by males between the ages of 18-29 with approximately between 8000-11,000 players on at any one time, although this number may be higher as the source of those numbers comes from those who have the Steam version. Judging from the peak player number times and the majority of the language seen in chat during matches, a majority of players are Russian, which probably due to the game's Russian origins.
There appears to be a surprising lack of research done (at-least that is accessible through google searching) on War Thunder, with the only true numbers on the player base I found coming from an external rating site (IMDB) and Steam reporting the average player count (limited to those who got the game through Steam).
